OK Minis was started in 2006 for my Daughter because of her love of animals.
OK Minis is a small piece of Walnut Hill Farm that was farmed by my Grandfather and Grandmother (Eli and Sallie Smith). They bought the first piece of the farm in 1909. It is now operated by my Dad and Uncle John. We keep around 70 head of beef cattle and until last year we raised tobacco. My Uncle has seven miniature donkeys that run around the farm.
Olivia loves animals as much as I do. We have always had pygymy goats and collie dogs in the backyard. In December of 2006 I bought her a little sorrel and white mare, Stormy. I had no ideal where that would lead. Since then we have added six more miniatures, a 26.5 inch stallion named Playboy, a medicine hat mare named Pansy, two mares and a stallion from Tommy Blackstone, and the last was a blue roan filly named Belle from WW Miniatures. You can read more details and see all the horses by using the Our Mares and Our Stallions links above.
We have learned from scratch over the last two and a half years. We have spent so much time with them learning just how to take care of them. My brother-in-law showed me how to trim feet. Olivia was even able to get one of our little stallions to pull a cart last summer. We are going to show Belle this summer at some local horse shows. I am sure we are going to learn a lot doing this but I can't wait to see them in the ring. We are also expecting our first foal around Easter. This is a big event for us. I will try to keep the blog updated as we wait.
